HAL signs Rs 62,700 crore LCH deal with MoD; shares end at Rs 4,176

Synopsis:

Hindustan Aeronautics signed two contracts worth Rs 62,700 crore with the Defence Ministry to supply 156 Light Combat Helicopters. The supply will begin in the third year and create over 8,500 jobs, involving 250+ domestic firms.


In a major boost to India’s defence sector, Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) signed contracts worth Rs 62,700 crore with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for supplying 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH), Prachand. The contracts include training and associated equipment, marking one of the largest indigenous defence deals in recent years. The announcement was made post-market hours on 28 March 2025, driving interest in Hindustan Aeronautics share price, which closed at Rs 4,176, up 0.35%.

Contract Details And Supply Timeline

The two contracts include the supply of 66 LCHs to the Indian Air Force and 90 LCHs to the Indian Army. Delivery of these combat helicopters will begin in the third year and will continue over the next five years. The LCH, known as Prachand, is India’s first indigenously designed and developed combat helicopter capable of high-altitude operations exceeding 5,000 metres.

Indigenous Defence And Economic Impact

This procurement is expected to boost domestic manufacturing and employment significantly. Over 250 Indian firms, primarily MSMEs, will be involved in the supply chain. The indigenous content of the helicopters is expected to exceed 65%, further strengthening the country’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Additional Defence Contracts Signed

Alongside HAL’s agreement, the Defence Ministry signed a contract with Metrea Management for wet leasing a KC-135 Flight Refuelling Aircraft. This marks the first time such an aircraft will be wet-leased by the Indian Air Force. With these deals, the total number of contracts signed in 2024–25 has risen to 193, with a cumulative value of over Rs 2,09,050 crore. Notably, 92% of these contracts were awarded to domestic companies.

Hindustan Aeronautics share price closed at Rs 4,176 on 28 March 2025, reflecting investor optimism following the announcement. The company's Q3 FY25 performance showed strong growth, with revenue rising to Rs 6,957.31 crore and net profit increasing to Rs 1,439.83 crore. The robust order book is likely to support future momentum in Hindustan Aeronautics share price over the coming quarters.
