India's defence exports have surged from Rs 600 crore in 2014 to Rs 24,000 crore in 2024. The Ministry of Defence aims to double this figure to Rs 50,000 crore by 2030 through strategic policy reforms and private sector growth.
India is rapidly strengthening its position in the global defence manufacturing landscape. The Ministry of Defence has announced a target to achieve Rs 50,000 crore in defence exports by 2029–30. From modest beginnings of Rs 600 crore in 2014, exports have risen to Rs 24,000 crore in 2024, reflecting consistent growth under policy changes and support to domestic defence companies.

India’s defence exports have grown 40 times in the last 10 years.
The 2030 export target is more than double the current figures.
Focus areas include local production, reduced import dependence, and stronger logistics.
The Ministry of Defence continues to support private sector participation.
India is transitioning from a defence importer to a defence exporter.

The Ministry of Defence has adopted a multi-pronged approach to reduce import dependency and encourage indigenous development. Key initiatives include the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP), increased foreign direct investment (FDI) limits in defence, and production-linked incentives.

With growing global demand for advanced Indian military equipment—such as light combat aircraft, missile systems, and naval platforms—the Ministry of Defence is confident in achieving the Rs 50,000 crore milestone. The current trajectory, backed by policy reforms and technological advancement, positions India as a key exporter in the global defence market.
