Ola Electric Under Government Scrutiny Over Missing Trade Certificates

Synopsis:

Ola Electric faces regulatory action after 107 out of 131 stores in Maharashtra were found without trade certificates. 43 stores shut and 214 vehicles seized amid compliance probe.

Ola Electric is under increased scrutiny from India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) following major non-compliance with Motor Vehicle Rules. The ministry is preparing to issue a fourth notice to the electric vehicle maker, seeking complete details about its retail outlets and trade certification status nationwide. National Scrutiny Follows State-Level Crackdown

The compliance issue first surfaced in Maharashtra, where inspections by the state’s Transport Department uncovered significant violations. Out of 131 showrooms examined, 107 were operating without valid trade certificates—documents mandated under the Motor Vehicles Act to legally sell or provide test rides. Following these revelations, 43 stores were closed, and 214 vehicles were seized.

Local RTOs were ordered to deactivate credentials of the errant dealerships and provide enforcement updates within 24 hours. As per MoRTH, the company must now disclose the trade certificate status of all outlets operating in India, especially those involved in vehicle transactions or customer trials.

Ola Electric Share Price Outlook Amid Rising Oversight

With investigations widening and multiple government bodies involved—including four testing agencies from the Ministry of Heavy Industries—Ola Electric may face reputational and operational setbacks. These developments have the potential to impact Ola Electric share price, especially if retail restrictions or penalties are extended nationwide. Continued pressure from regulators may influence Ola Electric share price movement and investor sentiment. Any delay in clarifying or resolving compliance issues could lead to a further dip in Ola Electric share price.
