Suzuki news today

Suzuki has officially revealed its first fully electric vehicle (EV), the e Vitara, at an event in Milan. Marking a significant entry into the EV market, the e Vitara is designed to cater to both the Indian and European markets. Production will take place at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, where half of the units will be allocated for export. This electric SUV builds upon Suzuki’s eVX concept and is expected to launch in India in March 2025, with a European release planned for June 2025.

Key specifications and design highlights

The e Vitara retains the striking design elements of the eVX concept, including tri-slash LED daytime running lights, prominent rear wheel arches, and rugged SUV styling with extensive dark cladding. Available with wheel sizes up to 19 inches in the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant, this electric SUV offers a ground clearance of 180 mm, optimised for diverse road conditions. Built on the new Heartect-e skateboard platform, co-developed with Toyota, the e Vitara is equipped with integrated eAxles, combining the motor and inverter for efficient performance.

Battery and performance options

Suzuki offers two battery options for the e Vitara: a 49 kWh model and a larger 61 kWh version, both featuring LFP blade cells from BYD. The 49 kWh variant delivers 144 hp and 189 Nm of torque, while the 61 kWh model generates 174 hp with the same torque. The AWD model, branded as AllGrip-e, adds a 65 hp rear motor, achieving a combined output of 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque. With Trail mode, the AWD version mimics a limited-slip differential by redistributing torque for enhanced off-road capability. The 61 kWh version is anticipated to exceed 500 km on global test cycles, positioning it as a competitive option in the electric SUV market.

Advanced interior and tech features

Inside, the e Vitara showcases a modern cabin layout with a floating dual-screen setup for infotainment and instrument clusters. The dashboard features a clean, shelf-like design, while the centre console, finished in glossy black, provides additional storage with USB ports. Highlights include a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, brushed silver air vent surrounds, and a rotary drive mode selector. Added conveniences include a wireless phone charger, electronic parking brake, heated mirrors, and ADAS features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist.

The rear seats offer split-folding functionality, ISOFIX mounts, and three-point seatbelts. Suzuki has optimised the interior for spaciousness, though the impact of battery placement on floor height and seating comfort remains to be seen.

The unveiling of the e Vitara signals Suzuki’s commitment to electrification, and market watchers are keenly observing Maruti Suzuki share price as the company prepares for this new EV launch.
