Strong year-on-year growth continues

India has consistently recorded strong growth in its alcoholic beverage exports. In the previous fiscal year, exports grew by 20%, and the upcoming year is expected to maintain a similar growth trajectory, with an increase of 15-20%. This continued growth can be attributed to heightened global interest in Indian alcoholic products, such as whisky, rum, and beer, as well as efforts to improve market access abroad.

Currently, India ranks 40th globally in alcoholic beverage exports, but there is significant room for growth in this market. The main destinations for Indian alcoholic beverages include countries such as the UAE, Singapore, and several African nations like Tanzania, Kenya, and Angola. These key markets are witnessing increasing demand for Indian products, particularly in the premium beverages segment.

Government initiatives to boost exports

The Indian government is actively supporting the alcoholic beverage industry in expanding its exports. Measures such as participation in global trade fairs and seeking enhanced market access for Indian products are playing a critical role in driving this growth. The Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is also working to promote exports in this sector, with an eye on increasing India’s share in the global market.

Commerce officials have reiterated the focus on promoting value-added products, not just in alcoholic beverages, but across various sectors such as food and marine. The goal is to achieve $1 billion in exports from these sectors in the coming years.

India's alcoholic beverages exports are set to grow significantly in 2024-25, driven by global demand and proactive government support. With the market projected to expand by up to 20%, the industry is poised for further success, providing new opportunities for growth in international markets.
