What is the difference between market makers and Electronic Communication Networks (ECNs)?
Market makers are firms or individuals that provide liquidity in the financial markets by continuously quoting buy and sell prices for a particular asset. They facilitate trading by being ready to buy or sell at those prices.
In contrast, an Electronic Communication Network (ECN) is a type of trading system that automatically matches buy and sell orders from different traders. ECNs provide a platform for direct market access, enabling traders to execute trades directly without relying on a market maker.
