Indian Markets Maintain Momentum, with Broad-Based Gains Across Sectors

Indian Markets Continue Their Rally

The Indian equity markets extended their rally for the fourth straight session today. Despite starting the day in the red, amidst a weak global setup, markets quickly made a strong recovery mid-session.

The Nifty Fifty surged past the 23,800 mark, while the Sensex ended just below 78,600, both indices closing on a high note. This performance wrapped up a holiday-shortened week with impressive gains.

Closing Numbers

  • Sensex closed at 78,553.20, marking an increase of 1,508.91 points or 1.96%.

  • Nifty ended at 23,851.65, rising 414.45 points or 1.77%.
    Both indices gained 4.5% every week, showcasing solid growth.

Sectoral Performance

All sectoral indices closed firmly in the green today, reflecting broad-based gains. The top-performing sectors included

  • Telecom

  • Public Sector Banks

  • Oil and Gas

  • Pharmaceuticals

  • Automobiles

  • Energy

  • Private Banks

These sectors recorded gains ranging from 1% to 2% across the board.

The information technology sector faced pressure for most of the session, primarily due to cautious commentary from Wipro. However, it made a mild recovery towards the end of the day and closed marginally higher by 0.2%.

The broader indices lagged behind the major benchmarks:

Stock Movers

  • Wipro was the biggest drag on the index, ending the day down by 4.14%.

  • On the other hand, Eternal emerged as a top gainer, jumping 4.47%.
