Closing Bell | Sensex jumps 1,079 points | Nifty surpasses 23,650

The Sensex surged for the sixth consecutive day, closing 1,079 points higher, while the Nifty soared above 23,650. Among the top gainers, Finolex Cables Ltd. rose 11.93%, Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd. gained 10.45%, and Rajesh Exports Ltd. climbed 10.41%. On the downside, Foce India Ltd. dropped 4.99%, KEC International Ltd. fell 4.42%, and Vodafone Idea Ltd. declined 3.81%. Positive momentum continued as key stocks exhibited robust performance, while a few faced minor corrections.

  1. Treasury Yields: 

    • US Treasury yields were mixed Friday, with the two-year rate dropping nearly one basis point to 3.95% and the 10-year rate gaining 1.7 basis points to 4.25%.

  1. General Trends:

    • Asian stocks faced pressure amid concerns over new targeted tariffs.

  2. Specific Index Performance:

    • US stock-index futures climbed in early Asia trading on signs that the next round of President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs could be more measured than had previously been suggested.

    • Japanese equities traded choppily, oscillating between gains and losses in the early session, while the Australian market declined.

    • Market sentiment is strengthening as the upcoming round of US tariffs, set for April 2, is expected to be more selectively targeted.


India Market Outlook

  1. Market in Previous Session:

    • Indian indices erased previous week losses and posted best weekly gain in more than 4 years, as both the main indices rise over 4 percent led by positive cues including sustained buying from domestic investors, reduced selling from foreign institutions, and appreciation in the rupee.

    • For the week, the BSE Sensex index rose 3,076.6 points or 4.16 percent to end at 76,905.51, and Nifty50 added 953.2 points or 4.25 percent to finish at 23,350.40.

    • In the previous session, Except consumer durables and metal, all other sectoral indices ended in the green, with oil & gas, media,and  telecom up 2 percent each.


TRADE SETUP FOR MAR 24

  1. Nifty Short-Term Outlook:

    • Nifty continued its upward trend, marking gains for the fifth consecutive session. The index formed a strong bullish candle with a higher high and higher low, indicating strength. In the process, it closed above the 52-week EMA and the descending trendline connecting previous highs.

    • Looking ahead, we expect Nifty to maintain a positive bias and gradually move towards the 23,800 level in the coming weeks, which marks the February 2025 high.

    • Over the last four sessions, Nifty has consistently formed higher highs and higher lows on the daily chart, reinforcing its positive momentum. A pause in this uptrend would only be signaled by the formation of a lower high and lower low. Immediate support is seen at 22,900-23,000, aligning with the 50-day EMA and the recent trendline breakout zone.

  2. Intraday Levels:

    • Nifty: Intraday resistance is at 23,480 followed by 23,570 levels. Conversely, downside support is located at 23,270, followed by 23,130.

    • Bank Nifty: Intraday resistance is positioned at 50,880, followed by 51,150, while downside support is found at 50,270, followed by 49,900.


Derivative Market Analysis

  1. Nifty:

    • The highest put OI has been observed at the 23,000 level, while immediate put OI addition is noted at 23,300, which will act as support.

    • On the flip side, major call OI is observed at the 24,000 level, while addition has been positioned at 23,600, which will serve as immediate resistance.

    • Participation of put writers has been observed, whereas call writers are active at higher levels, suggesting consolidation.

    • According to the option chain, the immediate range for Nifty is 23,000 to 23,600.

    • The Nifty put-call ratio declined by 0.01 and is now positioned at 1.15.

  2. Bank Nifty:

    • Across strikes above the 50,000 level, up to 50,500, put writers are active, suggesting multiple support levels and a positive data point.

    • The highest call OI has been noted at the 52,000 level, while immediate call OI is placed at 51,000, which will serve as resistance.

    • A dominance of put writers has been observed, whereas call writers are not active, indicating upside potential.

    • According to the option chain, the broader range for Bank Nifty is 50,000 to 52,000.

    • The Bank Nifty put-call ratio increased by 0.09 and is now positioned at 1.26.


US Share Market News

  1. Performance Overview:

    • US stock markets went up this week, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq making small gains as investors reacted to changes in year-end interest rate expectations, trade tariffs, and global tensions.

  2. Sector-Specific Movements:

    • The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.5% to 17,784.1. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average inched 0.1% higher at 5,667.6 and 41,985.4, respectively. Among sectors, real estate saw the biggest decline, while communication services led the gainers.

  3. Economic Indicators: 

  • For the week, the Dow gained rose 1.2%, while the S&P 500 added 0.5%. The Nasdaq rose 0.2%.
