The 52-week high is the highest price that a share attained during the previous 52 weeks. Check out this comprehensive list of all the NSE and BSE 52-week high stocks today.
As the prices of stocks fluctuate from one trading day to the next, they may hit new highs or lows. When a stock reaches the highest price point it has attained in 52 weeks, it is considered a 52-week high share on that trading day.
For instance, say a company’s shares currently have a 52-week high of Rs. 100 and the shares are now trading at Rs. 92. Over the next few trading sessions, the stock price rises and eventually closes at Rs. 102 on the NSE. On that trading day, this will be classified as an NSE 52-week high stock.
52-week high stocks are identified based on their closing prices on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). If the closing price of a stock is the highest it has been in the past year (or 52 weeks), it is considered to be the stock’s 52-week high.
That said, the share price may hit a much higher point during a trading day. However, if it closes lower than the stock’s current 52-week high, no new high is recorded. It is only when the closing price crosses the previous high that a new record is set and the security becomes a 52-week high stock on that day.
One of the easiest ways to find the 52-week high shares on any given trading day is to check the lists published by the NSE and the BSE. Both the stock exchanges disclose the names of the listed companies whose shares attained their 52-week high prices on each trading day.
Another way to find 52-week high and near 52-week high stocks is to use technical screeners to filter the shares that meet this criteria. This is an effective way for traders to know when any stock on their watchlists hits its one-year high.
