TRADE SETUP FOR JAN 14
Nifty Short-Term Outlook:
Index formed a bearish candle with a lower high and lower low signalling continuation of the downtrend. In the process index closed below the low of November 2024 (23,263).
The significant increase in the Oil prices, Dollar Index and US bond yield indicates that market volatility is expected to stay high as the potential policy changes under the Trump administration approach. The progression of Q3FY25 earnings season will keep the market stock specific.
Bias in the Index continues to remain down and only a formation of higher high and higher low in daily chart will signal a pause in the current downtrend.
The daily, weekly oscillators and market breadth indicators have approached oversold territory. Hence some base formation is likely in the broad range of 22,800-23,600.

Derivative Market Analysis
Nifty:
As anticipated, Nifty continued its bearish trend. The weekly Nifty options data suggests a range between 23,000 and 23,300, with substantial fresh call writing observed in the 23,200 to 23,500 range. The synthetic future stands at 23,125, while significant put open interest (OI) at 23,000 indicates immediate support at this level. A close below 23,000 could trigger a downside target of 22,000.
In the monthly Nifty option chain, the highest put OI is also at 23,000, with notable call writing and put unwinding at the same level. Put writers are shifting positions down to 22,500, while shorts are consistently building up in Nifty futures, evidenced by a 5.4% rise in OI yesterday. Additionally, the PCR (Put-Call Ratio) OI dropped by 0.16 points, closing at 0.72—further reinforcing the bearish outlook.
We maintain our bearish stance with a target of 22,000 for Nifty. However, momentum indicators are currently oversold, so it is advisable to wait for a pullback before initiating fresh short positions. Our stop-loss for this bearish view remains at 24,250 (spot level).
Bank Nifty:
The highest put OI for Bank Nifty is positioned at 42,500. An immediate range for the Banknifty is 48,000 - 49,000. Call writing is evident up to the 48,000 level. The PCR OI fell by 0.02 points, closing at 0.56—another bearish signal. However, with Bank Nifty already correcting over 3,000 points from the 51,800 level, it is prudent to wait for a pullback before entering new short positions.
